Recognized at 2013’s year of the word caught on from the President to the Pope. Anyone and everyone takes selfie’s of their life. In case you have been living under a rock or not into social media this is Wikipedia’s definition of selfie:

“A selfie is a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digitalcamera or cameraphone. Selfies are often associated with socialnetworking, like Instagram. They are often casual, are typically taken either with a camera held at arm’s length or in a mirror, and typically include either only the photographer or the photographer and as many people as can be in focus. Selfies taken that involve multiple people are known as “group selfies” or “ussies”.”

No kidding, I was training a client the other day and I was talking about taking a selfie and she said “A what?” I looked at her like she was an alien. She was serious. She had never heard of the word selfie! And I am 10 years older than her. Blew my mind! I thought everyone knew. Even my 7 year old niece knew what a selfie was!

There are so many types of selfie’s you can take. Some of the most common ones you see are:

1. Gym selfie: Yep, we all do it. We check ourselves out when no one is looking and sometimes we get caught doing it. When we make progress, we want to show everyone. It’s like saying “Check me out! How many likes will this get me?”

3. Damn I look good selfie: It date night or perhaps you are going out with the girls. The hair, the make up, the jewelry, and the hot little number you are wearing. Yep, I look good and I am taking a selfie you say to yourself. Just like my pic so it strokes my ego. Enough said!

4. The “See I don’t always look hot” selfie: We want the world to know that you can be real, right? The “I can be real and show you that I don’t always look good selfie” Well, maybe not…

5. Make up done/hair did selfie: So your hair is perfect and your make up is caked on, time to take a selfie. Clown face is in effect and I am channeling my inner diva for this mirror selfie.

6. Look what I am drinking/eating selfie: Do we really care what you are eating or drinking? I guess for some who really want tips on eating healthy it works. I know in my business as a fitness trainer it is. I do post images of food and products but they hardly get any likes or feedback but when I post my face eating or drinking it, the likes start flowing.

Ingredients:

1 stalk celery

1 green apple

1 large leaf of kale

1/2 cucumber

1 inch piece of ginger root

1 squeeze of lemon

Juice all and stir well. Add the lemon to taste.

SEXY at 60!

So if you have been watching the news lately I am sure you have seen that Christie Brinkley turned 60. Yes, peeps, 60! She was one of my favorite supermodels back in the day. I especially remember her in Chevy Chase’s National Lampoon’s Vacation when she was in the red Ferrari, I had a girl crush on her back then. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTN7utu_JSI So funny!(Loved this movie!) As time went on I would see her pop up in the news here and there. Then she caught my attention when she was on the cover of People. I thought “60? No way, has that much time passed by that she is 60 now?” I guess so, I will be 40 this year myself. Wow, where did the time go?

Seeing this cover, how amazing she looked, and reading her story, I was very impressed. She is a strong woman. I admire her. I can’t compare myself to her, we all have our own story. But I hope when I reach 60, not only do I want to look amazing, but be strong. Life is tough, it is how you handle it day by day with a positive attitude. I will be the BIG 40 this year, even though 60 is far away for me right now, I know that 60 can be SEXY! Thank you Christie for giving me hope for the future. Until then, I will live day by day. 60 will be here for me before I know it! 🙂

SNEAK PEEK FROM OUR LATEST SHOOT!

Hey HH family, friends, and fans,

I just wanted to share some pics from our latest shoot. Every year in January we start off by doing a shoot for new website content, social media ad campaigns, and to showcase our current physiques.

Every year our image changes with what we are feeling. We know our home base look is fitness but that is a no brainer. We love all types of looks from very conservative to sexy. We love to showcase the different looks in life. Most days, we our in our workout gear with no make up. We are training our clients, working out, or running errands.

So when we can get our makeup/hair professionally done, then that is what we are going to do for a fun shoot. I don’t mind wearing no make up and getting my nails dirty but I sure love getting dolled up. My inner vixen comes out to play at the shoots. Kind of like an alter ego if you will.

After we get all dolled up then we start with the shoot line up. We had 6-7 looks to shoot that day. It takes a lot of work and effort to coordinate a shoot. You have to make sure it fits about 8 people’s schedule. The hair/make up people, the five of us, and the photographer. Then it is picking out tearsheets and finding outfits.

Then after that, we have to have a meeting to make sure we are all on the same page. An average shoot starts at 9:30 am and ends at 6 pm. That is being in hair/make up for over an hour to eating lunch to shooting. But when the shots come on the photographers screen, all the hard work and effort was worth it!

To get 5 girls to have thier best faces and thier bodies to look awesome for the camera is harder than you think. Every pictures one of us had a goofy face or our body was in the wrong position and was not flattering. Since our ad campaigns our very specific, so are our pictures to get the right shot.

Shot after shot we were nailing it. All in all it was a great day. We can’t wait to show you what we have come up with to share with you our message. Thank you all for supporting us and our mission-YOU!

SOME PEOPLE HAVE ABS, I HAVE A BOOTY!

What is your favorite body part? We all have a favorite body part that we love to showcase. Some people have a six pack, some have nice long lean legs, and for others it can be nice sculpted arms. But for me, it has always been my butt.

Early on in my teenage years, I ran track and played volleyball. I was a little stick figure with a small bubble butt. I remember being a teenager in a bathing suit when my mom’s friends would say “Wow, look at your cute little derriere”. I could care less back in those days about my butt. It wasn’t till I hit my 20’s till I got complimented on it left and right. It wasn’t only in a bikini; it was in jeans and shorts too.

Fun fact: I used to be a butt model for swimwear and lingerie!

In my 30’s, I became a bikini fitness competitor and a model. I was a requirement to have a nice high and tight booty for stage. I was being critiqued on my physique. For me, whenever I worked out and dieted down for competitions or shoots, my butt would look better than my abs. For most female competitors, they had the opposite-a problem with losing fat on thighs and butt. For me, that was the easy part. My “problem area” was my abs. I have such a long torso, I couldn’t get the lines across or fuller. I tried everything in bodybuilding and powerlifting to help my abs get fuller so they can pop. Nothing seemed to work. If I dieted down to where you could actually see them, I was too lean everywhere else. I almost looked anorexic. Not good for a 5’9” tall thin athletic girl.

To this day, I still work on my elusive abs. I eat super clean and commit to core work, but nada. I am lean and have muscle tone in my abs, but not a six pack. I have learned sometimes it is genetic on how the abdominal wall is. After watching many competitors c0mpete for the past 7 years, I realized, I am not the only one. There are a lot of us out there that can’t bring a six pack to stage, but we got the glutes that salute! I can bring a backside package to stage like no other. But, the torso part, not so much.

So does that mean I give up? NO! I keep going. Something inside of me still makes me fight for it. I know that the body is a work in progress and always changing. You have to keep moving forward.

Here is am at 39 and I still have a great butt! Yep, I said it. I say showcase your strengths and keep working on your weaknesses. There is nothing wrong with flaunting a little hard work and great genetics! The older I get, I realize it is a challenge to keep things tighter. This helps me push and focus more in the gym.

So keep working on yourself to get to your health and fitness goals. I have seen the impossible happen!

A BIKINI SELFIE A DAY…

Keeps your fitness progress on display. Yep. I said it. Taking regular daily selfie’s in a bikini can help you improve your fitness physique.

Selfie. I am sure you have heard by now that the Oxford Dictionary proclaimed it a real word this year. It originated in 2002 in an Australian chat room. Fast forward to 2013 and it is has mainstream by storm. Even my mother-in-law who is in her late sixties just text me and my husband her first selfie last night to us. Everyone young and old who can take a picture with their smart phone is jumping on board of “look at me!”

We all love to take a good selfie of what we are currently doing, but snapping pictures of your body in a bikini or a sports bra/shorts helps you access your fitness physique. There is nothing wrong with taking selfie’s to check your progress. When I put the hard work in my training and nutrition, guess what? I am showing off my hard work. Plain and simple. It’s not a brag. It is a look at my hard work and results. It’s a “I can’t believe I am 39 and I look like this selfie.” I run a health and fitness blog. I try to motivate others. So by posting a selfie in nearly nothing, it keeps me on my toes.

As a fitness professional, I seek out many ways to stay motivated too. By snapping selfie’s and posting for the world to see, it is one way that helps me stay focused. Even surfing the net for other people’s selfie keep me motivated too. Some people say it is too much and it is lame or self centered that we fitness people post workout and bikini selfie’s. Ok, for some people it is. I can look at their selfie and laugh my butt off. But, I am here to tell you that in my case, I am here to post selfie’s and you are my accountability partner. The social media world.

So, I encourage you as one way to stay accountable to your own health progress. Take selfie’s. Post them when you are comfortable with yourself. Post when you are proud. Post when you hit a milestone. There is nothing wrong with that. No judgment from the Healthy Housewives. I say that we have a Healthy Housewives selfie day. We should take a selfie and hashtag #HHselfie. Post how proud you are of your health accomplishments! We here at the Healthy Housewives community want to hear from you via social media! 12 DAYS OF FITMAS

I usually write blogs on health and fitness so naturally I had to come up with a Christmas song that has to do with fitness. This one is an original by yours truly. Yep, made it up! I thought this fitmas song would put you in a healthy holiday spirit.

 

On the first day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the second day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the third day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the fourth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the fifth day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, five workout days, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the 6th day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, six pack of abs, five workout days, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the 7th day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, seven days of protein shakes, six pack of abs, five workout days, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

 

On the 8th day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, eight hours of sleeping, seven days of protein shakes, six pack of abs, five workout days, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

On the 12th day of Christmas my trainer gave to me, twelve months of training, eleven nutrition tips, ten trainers training, nine workout songs, eight hours of sleeping, seven days of protein shakes, six pack of abs, five workout days, four sets of squats, three days of soreness, two shiny dumbbells and a challenge to be healthy!

MEET OUR DECEMBER COVERGIRL FAN WINNER!!

Last month we had a social media contest for our Healthy Housewives fans. We asked the fans to write in and tell us why we should choose them to be on our Healthy Housewives magazine cover. They had to have a high res image that we can use to be our cover. We had a ton of entries with women from all over the world that shared their stories and sent pictures, we were so overwhelmed on who to pick.

 

After a week of rereading and looking at which candidate would be the next cover girl, we decide on 2 women. Then we changed our entire 2014 year, to the year of fans. Without the fans, we wouldn’t be here. So, for 2014 we are picking 12 women to grace our cover.
