Why I Love Pilates <3

Every week, I want to write my bog on Pilates and why I love it so much. But I get bogged down because there is so much I want to say and haven’t been able to articulate without writing a book.

So it finally came to me, why don’t I just share the top three reasons I love Pilates and go from there! Keep it simple!

“The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit.” Joseph Pilates

1. Pilates is “A thoughtful way of movement”

Pilates or Contrology is a system of choreographed, flowing, and precise movements developed by German-born Joseph Pilates, (born 1880). Pilates works by developing and bringing awareness of our body’s, posture, core strength, deliberate movement, stamina and flexibility. This system enables us to achieve a functional fitness which can be carried through everyday movement, other forms of exercise, injury, any physical limitations and age is never a factor..

2. Pilates develops long, lean muscles and strengthens the Powerhouse

Pilates builds strength from the inside of the body outward.  Its a restorative system that heals the body from the inside, out.  An additional benefit of Pilates is the physical transformation which occurs. Muscles develop long, lean and balanced throughout the body.  Posture is restored and an incredible core or Powerhouse develops which holds the organs in proper place and protect the spine.

3. Pilates is for Every “Body”: Every day

Pilates is a great practice to develop at any age.  You can practice at home, in the gym, in a studio, privates or classes.  Pilates also teaches proper breathing and how to take in the most breath possible while maintaining an engaged core.  This aspect alone enriches the body and brings longevity to life!

“The art of contrology proves that the only real guide to your true age lies not in years or how you THINK you feel but as you ACTUALLY are as infallibly indicated by the degree of natural and normal flexibility enjoyed by your spine throughout life.” Joseph Pilates

Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus

My go to juice bar in Dallas prepares and sells the most delicious fresh salads, soups and dips.  My favorite dish/dip is a trio of hummus.  Two of the dips are tasty but one in particular is out of this world.

One evening at home, I was really craving this hummus and so I decided to play around and see if I could duplicate it.  Well guess what?! This recipe is spot on!!!!  Spicy, delicious and healthy too!!!

Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus

2 (15 oz) cans organic garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

2 large jalapeños, chopped and seeded
2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 cups roughly chopped cilantro

1/4 cup EVOO
1/4 cup of fresh lemon or lime juice

Sea salt to taste

Place all ingredients in a food processor.  Blend until smooth and serve with veggies and your favorite healthy cracker.

Side Notes:

This recipe will keep in the fridge for up to a week but you will probably eat it before then because its sooo good! And of course the recipe tastes better after storing overnight!

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Hi Everyone! Fall is here and with it, cool air, Halloween, and pumpkin patches filled with pumpkins everywhere! We carve them, decorate for fall with them and yes you should eat them too!

When you are finished carving that pumpkin don’t throw away the delicious and nutritious insides! Roast the seeds and puree the pumpkin which can be subbed for any canned pumpkin recipe and so much better for you!

 Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

  1. Scoop out the innards of your pumpkin. Separate the seeds from the pumpkin flesh and strings. Toss the strings and set aside the meat for pureeing.
  2. Wash the seeds well in a colander and rub them between your hands to rinse completely.
  3. Place the seeds in a medium pot.  Cover the seeds with water and add a teaspoon of salt. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Drain the seeds in a colander, wipe with paper towels to remove moisture and place evenly on a cookie sheet to bake.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350 and bake 15-20 minutes stirring frequently.

Now the fun part- seasoning!

Before baking, drizzle the seeds with olive oil. Then pick your choice of seasoning!

  •  Savory: Garlic salt and Worchestershire sauce
  • Tangy: squeeze of fresh lemon juice, Mrs. Dash or lemon pepper and pinch of sea salt
  • Sweet: 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, and 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • Spicy: 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper
  • Natural: Dash of sea salt

Celebrity Skinny Wraps

Before and after 1 wrap

Before and after 1 wrap

Skinny wraps are all the rage these days. Pictures circulating on the internet show amazing before and after pictures claiming visible results in as little as 45 minutes. Do they really work? Or is it a scam?

To give you a little bit of background about my experience with wraps. As a fitness model, I usually do the expensive spa wraps to detox right before a fitness shoot or competition. Professional spa wraps smooth out the skin, extract water weight, and takes off inches. I love how lean and smooth I look after one. Exercise and nutrition are my top priorities and choices to live a healthy lifestyle and be fit. But I would be lying if I said that is all I do to get my body. I love detoxing products and services to rid toxins like massages, endermology, and foam rolling. Spa wraps are part of my health and wellness regimen too but they can be quite pricey. I usually pay around $125 plus tip.

This is what I typically look like when I do a body wrap!

I personally had never heard of these “skinny wraps” or had seen any images circulating until a few weeks ago. I had a distributor contact me through Facebook wondering if I was interested in trying an at-home body wrap. Being the beauty junkie that I am, I was curious to try this wrap. So I said yes and she sent it to me right away.

After I got the product, I emailed the distributor back and told her I got the wrap. She told me to measure and take pictures. I love a good science experiment so I couldn’t wait to see if it worked. I read the directions and checked out the ingredients. I try to live an organic holistic lifestyle so I watch what chemicals I put in my body. The wrap is made of an herbal formula so I was willing to try. I was skeptic at first, but a willing participant.

This is how it works

This is how it works

Now as some of you know, I am very fit. I work out 5-6 days a week and eat a plant based lifestyle. As a fitness professional, I don’t believe in a quick fix or miracle products. Bottom line, it is a consistent healthy lifestyle that gets you to your goals. But, I do believe in products and services that will help aid you through your journey. So here I go, wrap time!

I put on my latest fringe bikini that I bought for my Mexican vacation, took measurements and pictures, and then pulled out the skinny wrap from the package. It looks small, but unfolds 4 times larger than the package. It said to place the lotion side on desired area and then wrap plastic wrap around to keep it in place. I was feeling bloated that night at 9 pm so I decided to put on my ab area. I placed the wrap on and then finished the wrapping by putting plastic wrap to secure the skinny wrap. It says you can keep it on for a minimum of 45 minutes and a maximum of 8 hours. I decided to go for the 45 minutes. So I set my timer on my iphone and then finished work on my laptop. 45 minutes later, I unwrapped the plastic to see my stomach; I have to say I was quite shocked at the results, it worked! I snapped my pictures and did a side by side comparison. Wow, I was in shock. Really? This product worked on my bloated fit self. I was a believer.

I bought some more to try on friends and family to see if they got the same results, and guess what, they did. I was sold. I contacted the distributor from Facebook who originally gave me the wrap to learn more. I was so impressed that I recently became a distributor too. I thought this would be great for my clients. As a fitness trainer I train a lot of models, pageant girls, and fitness competitors. They could use this to help them right before they compete on stage or go to a photo shoot. I was also impressed by the price. One wrap is about $25. Very affordable!

On the website they call them the Ultimate Body Applicator. Anyways, it is worth the $25 for this product. If you would like to give it a try, here is the link to the product.
