Slenderizing Dresses

Hi! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I don’t know about the rest of you but I had a turkey hangover this morning! I was careful to watch my portion control so I could enjoy a few bites of dessert ūüėČ but i still felt a little blah…today probably all the test bites that go with cooking! ¬†So of course this morning I put on my comfy jeans which have a little give (we all have those right?) for days like today. ¬†Well I have an event to go to tonight and I can’t wear jeans so I started thinking about my dresses and what would be some great options for days like this and this is what I would like to share with you.
1. The contrast panel dress or illusion dress:  dark shades minimize the size of body parts.  Dark shades on the outside narrow the hips and waist.  Dark shades down the middle slim the tummy. A vertical line down the front in any shade is also slenderizing.
2.  Print dress:  An all over print dress will distract the eye and camouflage problem areas.  Think the busier the better!
3.  Color block dress:  A light shade on top will draw attention to the bust area and darker shade on the bottom of the dress will minimize the hips. I really love color block dresses, you can play with different tone on tones as well and still achieve a flattering look.
Since jeans are not always an option, next time you are out shopping (hopefully not today…crazy out) buy a comfortable slimming dress to wear when you need a little extra wiggle room! Until next week! Kathy

HAPPY 1ST ANNIVERSARY HEALTHY HOUSEWIVES

The cast of the Healthy Housewives

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HEALTHY HOUSEWIVES FAMILY!

Last year on 11/11/11, I launched my brand The Healthy Housewives. I am so proud to see how far we have come in 1 year. The Healthy Housewives mission is to help women live healthier lifestyle through fitness, nutrition, beauty, fashion, home, garden, and pets.

As a life coach and fitness trainer for the past 10 years, I have helped hundreds of women balance their busy lives and be in shape at the same time. Through my passion of helping other women, I was inspired to create The Healthy Housewives. I love helping women transform for the better. Everyone of of my clients and fans inspire me too. I love the synergy we have together. I think women work better in groups. I love having a great support group who you can lean on when you need it and vice versa.

I wake up everyday with the intentions of being a better person and to help build people up mentally and physically. I like to surround myself with like minded peeps too. Each and every Housewife I picked for my project had to fit the part. They had to love health & fitness as much as I do and practice it in everyday life, they had to fit the specialty I was looking for my HH team, and they had to be good honest people with good intentions on wanting to help women lead a healthier lifestyle.

From the time I started the HH brand, it has definitely changed. But changed for the better. I love the 5 women I work with. They are just as pumped about helping other women as I am. We have¬† ton of stuff in the works for you guys: workout DVD’s, eBooks, giveaways, clothing, eco-friendly products, and of course our Healthy Housewife of the month covergirl. This has been a hit over the course of our year. We love our HH covergirls! Amazing women with amazing stories.

Send us your story! This could be you!

We have been working hard to motivate you and give you our health tips that work for us. We are 6 different women with 6 very different healthy lifestyles. No one’s healthier lifestyle is better than the others. We do what works for us. We have 6 different body types that range from short, tall, athletic, and the model type. But regardless of our body type, we don’t make excuses, we stay in shape. All of us have different health & fitness journey’s. We are here to share them with you.

Fashionable Feel Good Workout Wear

Hello! I just bought a few new fall pieces for my work out wardrobe so his week I’m writing about workout wear. ¬†It’s never been easier to look good working out than it is now. ¬†Many retailers from affordable Target, to Victoria’s Secret Pink line, to high-end designer Stella McCartney’s line for Adidas and my personal favorite.. workout wear mecca… Lululemon all carry super stylish pieces that are sure to boost your work out.

My feeling is that cute and comfortable workout wear is just as important as having proper food fuel for your workout and/or listening to music while doing cardio.  The simple fact is, if you look good, you feel good and that goes for your workout in the gym, Pilates, barre, yoga, boot camp or any other activity. In the past I may have worn a shirt that was too tight, too big or just plain ol ugly and I felt uncomfortable so instead of focusing on my work out I was busy fidgeting with my clothing.

I’m very lucky now that my workout clothes double as my work clothes so let me share a few tips that I have discovered.

  • Most importantly choose quality clothing that wicks sweat effectively
  • Clothing must stay in place–no tanks or tops that roll up, save gym shorts for running or group exercise – be aware of any leg/crotch gaps and dress accordingly for your activity
  • Don’t wear any freebie, old, ill fitting t-shirts, invest in a couple of great fitted tanks and buy your favorite colors or any color that makes you feel good
  • Layer colorful tanks with cute t-shirts, scarves and hoodies to wear to and from
  • Black bottoms are essential so no sweat marks show
  • Gym clothes take a lot of wear, so go through often and discard anything this is sheer from wear or has lost its shape
  • Don’t dry your sports bras in the dryer and invest in a good bra for your body (another blog)
  • Now for the Icing – Complete your put together workout look with accessories
  • A great gym bag to hold your cute sneakers, a fun workout watch, hair ties like Emi Jay, ear buds, iPod, and through in some cute flip flops.

Now have a great work out….looking fabulous!

Glamour Girl Gold and Black

Gold and black mixed together are a hot trend this fall season. ¬†You can do a solid LBD and accessorize with gold. A gold and black clutch, earrings, statement necklace, cocktail ring or edgy cuff paired with black will make an outfit gorgeous and glamourous. (I’m hearing Goldmember from Austin Powers in my mind every time I say gooooold) funny…anyway…
I went to Polyvore.com to make my board but you can go there and play and put outfits together that you would be comfortable in before you shop. ¬†I know everyone won’t love the metallic gold J Brand skinnys but guess what? Paired with a black top they are so fun, festive and very chic. ¬†Gold and black will be perfect for holiday parties which are right around the corner. ¬†So now is the time to start planning your holiday party wardrobe. That means eating right and exercising now to look fabulous later! ¬†Be sure to check out Marzia’s Healthy Holiday Challenge that starts today!
One more thing I want to mention is the Narciso Rodriguez limited edition collection at Kohl’s department store. The collection goes on sale November 7 at 7am. ¬†This is a great time to pick up a designer piece for a very affordable price. ¬†I have my eye on a black and white color block dress!!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday and great weekend! When you are out running around in Dallas please share if you come across some great value finds or any thing you might want to share with us and I’ll do the same! Kathy, Fit Fashionista

Shopping for a Cure: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hey Everybody! Your FitFashionista Kathy here! Well hopefully you all know October is breast cancer awareness month.  What better way to show your support and increase awareness than to buy a pretty pink accessory to glam up your everyday look.  And many of the purchase proceeds go to fight breast cancer and research. Sounds like  a win win!

Now on to a more serious note, statistics say 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection is key!!! The national breast cancer website has an app you can download to your phone to help you establish an Early Detection Plan. ¬†The app prompts you to schedule mammograms and regular self exams based on your age and medical history. I’m so downloading!

The Council of Fashion Designers of America has a special charity, The Fashion Targets Breast Cancer Foundation created by Ralph Lauren in 1994.  Their site has a lot of useful information as well a really cute t-shirt for purchase and of course the proceeds go to their foundation for research and support.

Fit Fashionista’s Tip of the week

Hello Healthy Housewive’s family! My name is Kathy Hamilton, the Fit Fashionista. ¬†I’m a Mom, Pilates Instructor, Healthy Housewives of the month covergirl, and Fashion Lover!

As a mother, I know it’s tough to make time for yourself to workout, eat right and look amazing too! ¬†My goal is to give all you Moms and Ladies real time saving, money saving and Eco friendly fashion tips while keeping you up to date on the latest styles and trends. ¬†So here we go! ūüôā

TJ Maxx Department Store

I can not tell you how much I love this store, especially the Runway section at TJ Maxx, all designer and in season unless the tag says otherwise. Talk about bargains galore! Just last week I picked up a pair of J Brand twill brown motorcycle jeans on clearance for $39.00 (regularly well over $250) and two Alice & Olivia dresses on clearance for $79.00 each (both had price tags of $350) at the TJ Maxx on Preston near Beltline in Dallas. ¬†I have wondered for years how they sell clothing so inexpensively and this is what I found out. They buy their clothing from the same designers as any big department store at the mall but they have a no buy back clause with the designers which means the designers do not have to buy back any clothing that doesn’t sell, they also buy clothing from department stores who have ordered too much and if you ever been in a TJ Maxx well you know it’s no frills and you may have to wait in line longer than you would like but with these savings I don’t mind at all! Another positive, they have lay-a-way…oh and the Runway department has Gucci handbags, Balenciaga boots, Missoni dresses and other great big designer finds…lay-a-way….just saying. ¬†Don’t forget to check out the beauty section, work-out clothing, and kids clothes are adorable and cheap (DKNY cargo pants for my daughter 9.99)! And be sure to buy one of their adorable .99 cent shopping bags to load up all your loot and skip the plastic bags!
