I GO TO THE GYM AT 4 AM AND I’M NOT A MORNING PERSON!

My transformation

My transformation

Hey all! I’ve been absent a few weeks from the blog, but I’m ready to share my progress, my crazy life, my words of wisdom and my new successes with you all!

So proud of how hard I have worked to get my post-baby body back!

So proud of how hard I have worked to get my post-baby body back!

Where to start? First of all, Beau is doing MUCH better! He’s off of his liver medication finally and he’s smiling and doing cute baby things. Bryan and I are very grateful for this!

Beau is finally feeling better! This smile makes me happy!

Beau is finally feeling better! This smile makes me happy!

Training is going great! I have seen SIGNIFICANT changes in my body! My muscle definition is coming back, I’m lifting heavier weights, I’m no longer ready to pass out after jogging 1 minute on the treadmill (I can now do 45 minutes non-stop!), I feel more confident in myself and I’ve nearly lost all of my post-baby weight!

I’m wrapping up week 7 of working out and I’ll be entering week 8 on Monday. While I’m more than excited about the progress I’ve made to-date and the progress I’ll continue to make, it hasn’t always been easy. I’m human and have days that I don’t feel like I’m getting the most out of my workout and days when I don’t feel like I’ve made as much progress as I think I should have. I sent Marzia a text one morning feeling discouraged. I was in week 6 of training and feeling like I should have more definition in my abs area. She reassured me that the definition will come and that HELLO! – I JUST HAD A BABY! It takes time for the body to heal and transform. I spent 9 months stretching it out. It will take more than 6 weeks to get it back. Reality check? Yes. What I needed to hear? Yes. I, like everyone else working on getting into shape, have to remember that TIME is the key. And patience. But sometimes I’m not so good with patience. Haha!

Finally seeing my some muscle now!

Finally seeing my some muscle now!

Due to my crazy schedule and new responsibilities as a mom, my workout time comes EARLY. My alarm goes off at 4:10 a.m. and I’m at the gym by 4:45 a.m. And trust me (or ask my husband), I’m NOT a morning person! But, that’s what best fits my schedule, so that’s what I’m doing. Make time, not excuses, right?

I’m still eating clean. I’ve found all sorts of new ways to creatively eat clean and enjoy my favorite meals. My go-to’s are stuffed bell peppers, spaghetti squash, zucchini “sushi,” and Portobello mushroom pizzas. Sundays have turned into our grocery shopping days. We bring everything home, get it sorted, rinsed, in storage bags and put away. Monday nights I do my meal prepping for the week while Bryan plays with Beau and the dogs. It takes me a few hours, but it saves me TONS of time later in the week. It also keeps me on track. If I have something made and ready to go, then I don’t need to go out for fast food or hit the candy drawer. I have everything I need. Bryan has been amazing with my eating habits. He tries everything I make and, to his surprise I’m sure, has liked almost everything so far (except Portobello mushroom pizzas – that’s too much mushroom for him). And if we have a date night and decide to go out for dinner, he’s very mindful of what I can and can’t have and makes suggestions based on that. At the least, a decent salad has to be on the menu for me. No chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes and gravy for me. I may have a bite of his every now and then, but I’ve come to not even really want it anymore. It may taste good, but the effects of several meals like that aren’t worth it to me. I prefer to keep my body happy and healthy, not feeling heavy and greased down.

An example of one of my snacks

An example of one of my snacks

I eat a cheat meal for dinner on Friday nights. I plan it ahead of time as my “treat.” And even then, I’m conscious of what I’m eating. We went for pizza last week. Instead of loading it with pepperoni, sausage and cheese, I had them load it with veggies, minimal sauce and minimal cheese. I’ve learned, too, that not eating heavier, greasier meals or candy and junk food for an extended period of time makes you not WANT to eat them anymore. I don’t crave them. I can easily pass them over, even when others are eating them right in front of me.

I still blog on my Facebook fitness page (https://www.facebook.com/F3byACG) and now also blog and interact on BodyBuilding.com’s “BodySpace.” It’s the Facebook for fitness junkies. And I won’t lie, I love it! It’s everyone working on their fitness goals encouraging and motivating each other along the way. I’ve come to be friends with some inspiring people there who encourage me to keep going after my fitness goals!

My day look at the law firm

I also still work full-time at my law firm. Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30. It makes for a crazy day sometimes by the time I get up, go to the gym, come home and get ready for work, help Bryan with Beau and either he or I take him to the sitter’s house, drive to work, work all day, drive back to pick up Beau and head home, take care of the dogs, make dinner, get Beau settled down and ready for bed… It’s a LOT. I’m blessed to have my husband, though. He helps with it ALL. Well, all except the cooking. I love him, but he’s not a cook. Haha! But he makes up for that by helping with laundry, picking up the house, taking care of Beau, playing with the dogs, packing Beau’s diaper bag, etc.

Love my husband!

Love my husband!

AND, I’m still a distributor for It Works! I joined Marzia in this business adventure and it’s been amazing! The It Works wraps and stretch mark cream have been instrumental natural supplements to my working out and clean eating. They tighten, tone and firm the skin, ridding the body of toxins and help you lose inches! I use one once a week and it’s helped my tummy come around! And I see definition there now! The stretch mark cream has been amazing with my tiger stripes from Beau! They’re drastically less noticeable! Now I’m using their Hair Skin Nail product to grow my hair out. And it’s growing like crazy. As well as my nails. It’s a nice change!

The products that helped me get my post-baby body back!

The products that helped me get my post-baby body back!

Not only do I enjoy the products, but I’ve met so many people who love them and have amazing results with them! My gym is now introducing them through me, I’ve got a team going under me that’s loving them and spreading the word about them, and Marzia and I are taking Dallas by storm to let everyone know about them! If you’re looking for something natural (herbal/botanically based) to help you on your health/beauty/fitness journey, I HIGHLY recommend It Works products! You can get them at my website www.bodybellisimo.com or message me about them at Ashley.casalini@gmail.com.

Overall, I’m one busy lady. But, with the help and support from my amazing husband, I find time to do it all. And I love it. I love my crazy, busy, fitness filled, healthy living, life. And even more than that, I love my husband and Beau. They drive me to be the best me and to keep going. I’ll make my bikini competition this year. I’ll inspire at least one person to follow their dreams. I’ll find my calling in the fitness industry and make the career change. I’ll be successful and make an extra income to live on with It Works! I’ll do it all. Because I believe in myself and because I have a support system that believes in me.

Working out, eating right, and wrapping tight keep me in shape after my baby

Working out, eating right, and wrapping tight keep me in shape after my baby

I highly encourage you all to find that support system for yourself if you haven’t already. It’s amazing. I also encourage you all to remember that you can do ANYTHING you want. In fitness. In health. In beauty. In LIFE. Just go for it!

Until next time,

Ciao,

Ashley Casalini! Garcia

FROM TIGER STRIPES TO BIKINI READY!

Excited to rock a bikini after pregnancy!

Excited to rock a bikini after pregnancy!

Hey y’all! It’s Ashley!
WHEW, let me tell you, it’s been a seriously crazy couple of weeks! It is currently 10:15pm and this is my time to settle down and unwind. Bryan (hubby) and I have put Beau (baby) to bed, settled the dogs down for the night, enjoyed our dinner and now get to relax. Our days are long, but they are worth it!

Winding down after a long day...ahhh...

Winding down after a long day…ahhh…

With work thrown back into the mix, I’ve had to figure out how to get to the gym in time to get a solid workout in. I can no longer go in the middle of the day or late at night. My gym’s hours are 4:30am-10:00pm Monday-Thursday, 4:30am-7:00p on Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm on Saturday and 8:00am-4:00pm on Sunday. The answer to my dilemma? Wake up at 4:15am and get to the gym by 4:45am (or 5:00am if I hit the snooze button!) before my mind realizes what in the world I’m doing!! Is it tough? You bet. I’m absolutely not a morning person. At. All. However, I’m very much of the mindset that I can make time to get my workouts in, not excuses as to why I can’t. It’d be easy to say “that’s too early,” or “I’m too busy with work, hubby and Beau.” The truth is that I am busy. But I also want to reach my goals and to be able to live healthy and take care of myself. So, that means making time for me. Even if it is crazy, stupid early!

Healthy meal prep is essential as a new mother or I will make bad choices.

Healthy meal prep is essential as a new mother or I will make bad choices.

I still do my meal prep. In fact, after we laid Beau down tonight (around 8:30pm), I was in the kitchen chopping, slicing, dicing, steaming and sautéing meals to have ready to simply grab-and-go in the mornings when I’m running out the door to work. Has it made for a long night? Ya, a little bit. But it’s absolutely worth it!! I won’t have any excuse to order out for lunch or to grab cookies for snacks. I HIGHLY recommend spending a couple hours one night a week to cook some healthy food and make some healthy snacks to have readily available and easy to take with you. It’s amazing how much time and effort it saves you throughout the week!
And now, because I’m not busy enough, I’ve teamed up with Marzia and am a distributor for It Works! Have you heard of that crazy wrap thing? Have you seen what the wraps and/or creams can do? Y’all, it’s amazing stuff! You should ask me about it. In fact, I’ll go ahead and give you a peek preview! It’s no secret that Beau left me with some pretty fancy stretch marks. However, I’ve been using the Stretch Mark cream for about 3 weeks and have done 2 wraps from It Works! The stretch marks have faded SIGNIFICANTLY and the wraps have helped with the weight loss and toning. It’s like having your own personal at-home spa experience. And I’m not just saying all of this to try and convince you to contact me about it, I promise (although you should! Visit my page at http://www.BodyBellisimo.com to see all the products). I’m saying this because I had to try it out for myself and see it to believe it. And holy moly y’all! I’ve got pictures to prove that the It Works! products ACTUALLY WORK!! And they feel amazing!

I couldn't believe it till I tried it.

I couldn’t believe it till I tried it.

My life is busy. Beau. Bryan. Dogs. Family. Friends. Work. Working out. Blogging on my Facebook Fitness page (https://www.facebook.com/F3byACG). Blogging for the Healthy Housewives Transformation series. Meal Prepping. I’m probably forgetting something. Would I change any of it? Absolutely not!
Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I truly believe that God doesn’t give me any more than I can handle, nor does He let me take on more than I can handle. I choose to believe that my future is bright and I am determined to make sure that I live, and inspire others to live, a healthy lifestyle.

With each passing week, I feel better and better!

With each passing week, I feel better and better!

From one crazy, busy full-time professional, wife and mommy to all of you – living a healthy lifestyle is absolutely possible! Stick with it! I’ll check back in soon with more progress and possibly crazy stories!

Healthy Housewives Live Transformation Ashley Casalini Garcia Progress

Check out my progress since having Beau!

Check out my progress since having Beau!

Hey there! It’s Ashley! I am now 10 weeks post-pregnancy, 4 weeks into eating clean and going into week 3 of training mean. I feel GREAT! I’m learning so much about myself and my body.

I have such a new found respect for working women and mothers, both in and out of the fitness world. Even as a woman who constantly stays busy, as a new mom, I’m discovering what it’s like to juggle so much and still make time for myself. It’s not always easy and I’m SO blessed to have the support system around me that I do! Between Marzia, The Healthy Housewives, my husband, my family and my friends, I’ve been given nothing but love and support. This has allowed me to both be there for my baby, Beau, and husband, Bryan, without having to give up on myself, my dreams and my goals.

I am in competition with myself to live the best life I can!

I am in competition with myself to live the best life I can!

Here is a glimpse of my daily life. As of March 19th I’ll be done with my maternity leave and headed back to work, so this will change slightly. The eating clean will remain the same, but instead of going to the gym in the afternoons/evenings, I’ll go before work in the mornings.

I have to prep my meals to stay on top of my health!

I have to prep my meals to stay on top of my health!

MORNINGS:

I wake up anywhere between 7am and 10am, depending on how many times and how long I was up with Beau during the night (he’s still not sleeping through the night). Once I get up, the first thing I do is drink a glass of water mixed with 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar and the juice from ½ a lemon. Then I feed my 2 big dogs so that they’re happy pups!

Breakfast:

Breakfast is either egg-whites and oatmeal with berries or egg-white muffins and protein pancakes with berries. And of course, water!

Egg white muffins and protein pancakes are my typical breakfast

Egg white muffins and protein pancakes are my typical breakfast

The fun/interesting part about ANY of my meals is that I’m either enjoying them by myself or I’m balancing a fork in one hand to feed me and a bottle in the other to feed Beau. As a mom, I would definitely say that I’m taking the art of juggling, balancing and multi-tasking to a whole new level!

I also open up my Facebook fitness page and say Good Morning to friends and new followers, post breakfast photos and/or a motivational message.

Chores:

I try to keep Beau happy and entertained long enough to throw a load of laundry in, empty/fill the dishwasher, clean bottles and/or generally pick up around the house. Sometimes it works out great. Sometimes not so much! Sometimes trying to find time to get anything done, including simply taking a shower, is a real challenge!

Of all my responsibilities, I love being a mommy first!

Of all my responsibilities, I love being a mommy first!

Snack:

For a snack I really enjoy celery, cauliflower and carrots with hummus or Greek yogurt with blackberries and KIND brand vanilla blueberry oat clusters.
AFTERNOON:

Since Beau had such a rough start to his life, he still has doctor appointments each week. It may only be one or it may be more than one. He goes between a gastroenterologist for liver issues, the hospital to get blood work done and his pediatrician for general check-ups. If I take him to the gastroenterologist, I also take him for blood work the same day. This means bottle feedings at doctors’ offices, diaper changes in restrooms and eating while I’m out (I’ll get to this in a minute).

If I’m not at any doctor appointments, I’m continuing with Beau duty, updating my Facebook fitness page, doing chores or working out. Since I’ve been a runner my whole life, I enjoy putting Beau in the jogging stroller and going outside for a run and/or taking him with me to the gym and letting him hang out in the “Kid Zone” while I go through my workout.

I run while Beau sleeps

Lunch:

I’m a HUGE fan of meal-prepping, so lunch is pretty easy for me, whether at home or on the go (more on this soon…). I have either 3 oz. of grilled chicken or 3 oz. of turkey burger and 2 cups of steamed or sautéed veggies. Sometimes I add homemade sweet potato wedges or brown rice. And, of course, water!

A typical meal that fuels me for life

A typical meal that fuels me for life

Snack:

I usually have a simple protein shake for my afternoon snack or one of my pre-made raw veggie snack bags.

EVENING:

If I didn’t get a chance to work out during the afternoon, I go to the gym in the evenings when Bryan gets home from work. He takes over on Beau duty and I get “me” time to focus on my fitness! I drink water throughout my workout and a simple protein shake after. Then once I get home from the gym, Bryan goes and gets his fitness on! I take care of Beau, play with the pups, update my Facebook fitness page and have dinner.

My happy baby Beau! :)

Dinner:

Dinner is either another one of my pre-made meals or a portabella pizza. I’m a HUGE fan of pizza, so I really enjoy making portabella pizzas. I simply take a large portabella, clean it out, cook it a little, stuff it with veggies and turkey pepperoni (think supreme pizza) and top it with just a sprinkle of cheese and throw it in the oven until the cheese has melted…YUM! And, as always, water with my meal!

Snack:

Depending on how much exhausted I am from Beau and my workout, I may make it to one last snack before bed. If I do, it’s Greek yogurt and blackberries.

SUNDAYS AND MEAL PREP:

On Sundays I spend a few hours doing meal prep. I grocery shop, clean and cut veggies and fruits and weigh out my meat proteins. Then I steam, grill, sauté and bake everything. I use simple seasonings like parsley, lemon, rosemary, paprika, cinnamon, garlic and red pepper. No salt. No sugar. I portion out meals for the week and snack bags of fruit or veggies that are easy to grab on the go (like when I go to doctor appointments or out to run errands). This makes life SO much easier for me and keeps me eating healthy! I have no excuses to stop for fast food or junk food when I already have healthy meals and snacks ready for me!

If you buy good food, you will eat good food!

If you buy good food, you will eat good food!

SAMPLE WORKOUT:

Here is an example of one of my leg workouts:

2 sets/15 reps
Around the world lunges (front, side, and back-both sides)
2 minute jump rope
Plié squats
2 minute jump rope
Bulgarian split lunge (both sides)
2 minute jump rope
Single leg deadlift
2 minute jump rope
Repeat from the top until you have completed 2 sets

I have a while to go to get to where I want to be, but I’m enjoying every minute of it. Fitness has always been my passion and I’m excited that I’m taking steps to make it my career. I’m also excited to share my journey with others and to hopefully continue to inspire others to chase their dreams, whatever they may be!

I’m doing everything I can to do my “homework” and learn as much as I can about all aspects of the fitness industry, including reading about clean and healthy eating and the benefits of all types of healthy foods, researching fitness photographers, reading stories and workouts from women in the fitness industry, following bikini competitions and the women in them and reading about all types of different workouts (TRX, pilates, yoga, weight lifting, stretching, Zumba, rock climbing, running).

I pack healthy snacks so I am not tempted to make a bad decision!

I pack healthy snacks so I am not tempted to make a bad decision!

HOWEVER, while fitness is my passion and I want to make it my career, I am first, and foremost, a mommy and a wife. I love taking care of my little man, playing with my dogs and sharing my love, friendship and faith with my husband. His support means the world to me and continuously inspires me.

I LOVE my husband!!

I LOVE my husband!!

Until next time, eat clean, train mean and follow your dreams! It’s NEVER too late to start!

Ciao,

Ashley Casalini Garcia

Ashley's Wedding Pictures

Ashley’s Wedding Pictures

My name is Ashley Casalini Garcia. I am 27 years old and a wife and new mommy to a precious little boy, Beau Bradley Garcia, born January 8, 2014. I grew up in a loving Italian household where I was taught to put God and family first. My husband Bryan and I regularly attend Lakepointe Baptist Church and work hard to support each other in all of our life goals. I work full-time as a Legal Assistant at an amazing law firm in Uptown Dallas and am a full-time student online at Texas Woman’s University. My lifelong love of, and participation in, sports has driven me to stay healthy and fit – mentally, physically and nutritionally.

Growing up I played sports

Growing up I played sports

I am one of four kids, the second oldest. We have all been involved in sports since we were young! For me, I started playing t-ball and running in elementary school. By the time I was in middle school, I was playing slow-pitch softball year-round with my sister, our mom as one of our coaches. I was also a member of the track team. In high school I participated in swimming, softball and track and field. I was also a member of the speech and debate team, competing in foreign extemporaneous speaking and original oration, speaking and competing in front of groups such as The Rotary Club, former Dallas Cowboys players, Veterans of Foreign Wars and others, winning scholarship money and pushing myself to new limits in confidence and creativity.

I was awarded a track scholarship to Sam Houston State University

I was awarded a track scholarship to Sam Houston State University

My junior year of high school I was blessed to qualify for the state meet in track and field in Austin, Texas, competing in the 400m for 5A schools. I placed 5th. My senior year of high school I dedicated to competing in speech and track and field, running cross country to train and competing in the 200m, 400m, 4x200m relay and 4x400m relay. I was again blessed to qualify for the state meet in the 400m. This time I placed 3rd! In the whole state of Texas! It was an amazing moment! I was then chosen to be a member of the Texas team that traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a nation-wide meet that summer. All of this hard work – the early morning runs, after-school practices, weight lifting and dedication to nutritional health – paid off and I was awarded a track scholarship to Sam Houston State University in 2005.

I learned a lot about myself while at SHSU. I was part of a team of elite athletes that pushed me to my next level of fitness and the best shape of my life so far. We earned 4 Conference Championship rings for Indoor and Outdoor seasons and competed with the best in the nation at the Texas Relays each year. I felt like I was at the top of my game – in fitness. But, I was struggling personally as I was in a mentally, verbally and emotionally abusive relationship. I went from being a straight-A student and top-notch athlete to failing an entire semester and watching my times slip in my races. I started going out with friends more and dedicating myself less to what was important. I was depressed and did not know where to turn. I then suffered a back injury that caused me to red-shirt a season. Not being able to participate in practice every day, where I found my outlet and peace, sent me further into a depression. My coach pulled me aside and at that point stopped being my coach and started being my friend. He helped me realize the downward spiral I had spun into and helped to get out of my destructive relationship.

My husband and I

My husband and I

I ended up meeting my current husband, Bryan, in 2008. We worked together on campus. He was exactly the type of guy I needed in my life. He was a God-loving, southern gentleman who helped me to heal emotionally and mentally. However, due to injury and my rough year of competition, I ended up losing my scholarship in 2009 and was behind in studies from failing courses. I decided I needed to get away and start fresh. Bryan had transferred to Universal Technical Institute when we started dating and had finished his studies in July 2009 and decided to follow me back up to Dallas. We both worked full-time jobs and continued to grow in faith and by April 2010 we were engaged and married on October 8, 2011. I went back to school, attending Kaplan University, and received my Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies. I then enrolled at TWU to finish my bachelor’s degree in English and Business that I didn’t finish at SHSU and am currently set to graduate December 2014. We both had also gotten back into working out and eating healthy. I started my morning runs again and we both started lifting. It felt great to get back on track!

My engagement pictures

My engagement pictures

By 2012 we bought our first house and I decided that I wanted to again push myself to the next level in fitness. Sitting behind a desk all day was draining. I was meant to do more! I’m naturally athletic and wanted to inspire others to be fit in all areas of life! I met Marzia through my co-worker’s wife, Brooke, also a Healthy Housewife member. I started training with her for my first bikini competition. About six weeks in, Bryan and I found out that we were expecting, and I put my fitness goals on hold. I gained almost 45lbs. during pregnancy! When Beau was born he had a rough birth. His shoulder got stuck and the stress to his body caused heart, kidney and liver failure and a cephalohematoma. He spent the first 20 days of his life in the NICU unit and Special Care and we were told that we were lucky he made it through the first 24 hours. He is home now and we’re still working on getting his liver to 100% healthy. This has just further inspired and pushed me to get back to my fitness goals and back to training for my bikini competition.

My beautiful Beau!

My beautiful Beau!

I want to continue to push myself and to inspire others. I want Beau to know that no matter how hard things get, you can do anything you put your mind to, that God and family are always here for support and that living a healthy lifestyle will always make you feel better – body, mind and soul! Eventually, I’d like to make a career out of my love of health and fitness and get out from behind a desk! I’d like to let others, especially those who have been through tough relationships and struggles, know that they’re strong, that they’re loved and that living a healthy lifestyle can be empowering!

There are two quotes that I live by. The first is by D.H. Lawrence regarding self-pity (and not having it). It states, “I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.” It reminds me not to get lost in self-pity parties and to keep pressing forward. The second is a quote that we put on our high school track shirts and it has never left my mind. It states, “I do today what you won’t, so I can do tomorrow what you can’t.” It reminds me that hard work pays off in the long run! I can’t wait to continue my journey with Marzia and achieve my goals! Thank you, Marzia for dedicating your time, wisdom, patience and love to women like me!
