I’ve Got to Get Away!

this way out

Hi, Friends! It’s Brooke here. Is busyness overtaking your life? Are you constantly weary and running on empty? We all have so much to juggle that we barely have time to breathe. If you can get away on a vacation, sweet! But what if your schedule or your wallet is a bit pinched? You don’t need a whole week away at a 5-star resort to get some peace in your life, though it would be a great start! Here’s my personal plan for getting away, if only for a little while.

1. Nature

Happy, hot, and muggy in Mexico!

Happy, hot, and muggy in Mexico!

Go where the wild things are. Go where you can take a deep breath and actually smell the air. Find the wind, search the wide open sky, find some water, or surround yourself with your favorite kind of plant therapy. To a nature-starved soul trapped in the city, even the greenhouse at Home Depot is warm, loamy, and vibrant. I could never articulate why my soul resonated so deeply with watching a fire burning in my fireplace or standing on the deck of a cruise ship, gazing at the horizon as the wind whipped my hair and the waves  broke below me. Then I found Martha Beck’s description of the soothing power of nature in The Joy Diet: “If your body is tired, seek out some fluidly moving part of nature: a fireplace, a river, a field of wind-blown wheat, a thundering surf. Watching and listening to the patterned disorder of the universe is one of the deep soul’s favorite pastimes.” Lovely . . .

2. Loved Ones

My sister, Paige, and I--love her so!!

My sister, Paige, and I–love her so!!

Find the person or people you love the most and just marinate in the happiness they bring you. You don’t have to do anything or go anywhere, unless doing so will bring you joy. My heart bubbles over in the presence of loved ones—it is therapy like none other for the craziness in my life. When I’m with people I treasure, I love to linger and no amount of time is ever enough. You know the quote, “Parting is such sweet sorrow . . .”? Absolutely true!

3. Animals

animal collage

Seek out some animal friends ASAP! If you love creatures like I do, there’s nothing that makes me more deliriously happy than petting an animal. Some people go crazy for (human) babies—for me, it’s animals. If I can’t touch a creature, I’m begrudgingly content just to watch them. My favorite hotel in Miami, The Biltmore, is famous for its two beautiful, old-fashioned finch aviaries. These cages are in the lobby, are home to at least 20 finches, and are the first things you see when you step into this glorious hotel. If you’ve not heard the sounds finches make, the tiny chirps are soft, constant, and sweet. I could watch and listen to those winged charmers for hours—so very soothing.

4. Free Time

If you are a spontaneous sort like me, having time unplanned is a precious thing. Having an end point at the end of a stretch of time (even for something fun) makes me feel boxed in and anxious. So, on a recent trip to see my sister and her family, we found ourselves momentarily without plans and it was heavenly. When you keep time unmarked by expectation, 1) you can relax and simply be and 2) you leave room for unexpected joys. We enjoyed our free time by visiting, chilling out, reading, and then lucky for me—a puppy play date happened! See, you never know what will happen when you relax your grip on life! 🙂

5. Joy Reading

A few of my favorite things . . .

A few of my favorite things . . .

This seems to be an obvious choice, but for hyper-achieving, busy people, setting down whatever instructional, educational thing you doing can be the first step to getting away for a bit. I’m always studying or preparing for something, and of course there’s never enough time in the day to do everything. So, when I need to escape, I pick up my favorite books that make me laugh and am transported.

This list is my go-to plan for escaping for a little while and regaining some sanity and joy. What do you do to find some peace in your life? I’d love to know! Find me at

May your weekend be blessed and filled with joy,

Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus

My go to juice bar in Dallas prepares and sells the most delicious fresh salads, soups and dips.  My favorite dish/dip is a trio of hummus.  Two of the dips are tasty but one in particular is out of this world.

One evening at home, I was really craving this hummus and so I decided to play around and see if I could duplicate it.  Well guess what?! This recipe is spot on!!!!  Spicy, delicious and healthy too!!!

Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus

2 (15 oz) cans organic garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

2 large jalapeños, chopped and seeded
2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 cups roughly chopped cilantro

1/4 cup EVOO
1/4 cup of fresh lemon or lime juice

Sea salt to taste

Place all ingredients in a food processor.  Blend until smooth and serve with veggies and your favorite healthy cracker.

Side Notes:

This recipe will keep in the fridge for up to a week but you will probably eat it before then because its sooo good! And of course the recipe tastes better after storing overnight!

Have You Met HipS Sister?

My family, including my three "hip sisters," with me at my wedding in the British Virgin Islands

My family, including my three “hip sisters,” with me at my wedding in the British Virgin Islands

Being the second oldest of four daughters, I’ve always considered myself a hip sister, but now it’s legit. Meet HipS Sister and their eight (and growing) collections of hands-free active wear. I received my first HipS Sister through my work with the Healthy Housewives Team, and was asked to try it out on one of my longer distance runs.

The active accessory fit snuggly and stayed put during my six-mile run, and it held my cash, a credit card, my I.D. (you just never know what’ll happen on the road), my power gel snacks, and my iPod. Nothing jiggled; nothing fell out of place. My hands were moving freely, in sync with my legs, and my only thought was the road ahead.

HipS Sister was created by Sonia Kanner after she hunted high and low for a fashionable accessory that would hold her necessities during hikes. Now the HipS Sister isn’t just for active attire and workout time! Check out the Vegas Sister and the Sparkle Sister collections! You can stay hands-free at the pool, beach, party, girl’s night out, or fishing (as I found out a few days ago.) You can fit two rubber bands, lip protectant, a tube of sunscreen, a Cliff Bar, and a phone in a HipS Sister.  Perfect for this boating girl!

Not only is the product functional and fashionable, its made in the U.S.A. How cool is that?

They even have a special cam0 HipS Sister and part of the sales go to The Wounded Warriors Foundation. Save the world and look sassy? Sold!

The company and its founder believes in paying it forward, and once you purchase your first HipS Sister, you are in the Sisterhood to make positive change in the world. Their program exists to help those of us interested in being world changers: Pay it Forward! Pay it forward is a movement that has no boundaries. It is simple and yet so powerful. Check it out, and see how you can be a part of the change you wish to see in the world.

swim-sisterWith swimsuit season coming up, why not grab a sassy styled HipS Sister swimwear cover-up for your Spring Break trip? Now you can be hands-free as you cruise the beach towns, lounge poolside, attend a BBQ, party or dance into the sunset with style and comfort (and keep your important things very close by like your hotel room key, cash, and sunscreen.

lil-sister-02Little girls are our sisters too! With all their school trips and play dates, the Lil Sister is perfect. With their Lil Sister set comfortably on their waist, your little ones can carry their small personal items safely and discretely. These are also GREAT for any diabetic young girls who have to carry their insulin pump at all times. We have many girls who use their Lil Sister for that reason and they just adore it.

Phone-pocket-sheilds_1On a serious note, we all love having our cell phones close by, but over time, harmful rays could carry harmful affects to your health. No worries! HipS Sister has protective cell phone shields to protect you as you carry your personal electronic devices with you on your HipS Sister.

“We’ve always believed that the safest way to carry your cell phone was to turn it on flight mode. Better safe than sorry as they always say! Of course, it makes it hard to get calls and post a quick twitter update that way. We’ve been working diligently at finding an alternative and we finally have it. The phone shields offer you protection while still enabling you to use your cell phone as required. Slide your phone in your phone shield and into your hipS-sister. Live Life Hands Free and stay healthy.” –Sonia Kanner, Owner/Founder HipS Sister

*Research suggests that this material, made up of stainless steel fibers, may protect the wearer from electromagnetic fields caused by cell phones. Wear the green side against your body for maximum protection. The side with regular hipS-sister material is the side that will send and receive signals.

HipSSistercolorsSo what are you waiting for? Check out and find your perfect HipS Sister to try out. Chances are, you’ll want more than one option, and with so many style collections, I know you’ll find what you need. If you don’t, custom options are available, as are gift cards for the stylish lady (and young girls) in your life. HipS-sister gc

Oh, and if you want your favorite store or boutique shop to carry HipS Sisters, let me know. I’d love to visit with them about all we have available and what we can offer their customers. Let’s get HipS Sisters on everyone this spring and let’s get moving. Stay hip and hands-free, y’all!

Brittany Madrid Interviews Celebrity Stylist Carolina Tolentino from the TNT Hit Show Dallas

Meet our new celebrity fashion blogger!

Meet our new celebrity fashion blogger! She is our current HH Covergirl! Welcome Brittany Madrid to the team!

Hi all you Healthy Housewives, Brittany here!  In addition to being this month’s featured Healthy Housewife, I’m going to be contributing my two cents on fashion right here on the blog!  I’ll be taking a look at our favorite trends from the runways, television, and celebrity style then giving you tips and tricks to make them work for you! My advice will always be real and the guaranteed inside scoop!

To kick off my fashion contribution, I was so excited to be able to sit down with the lovely and talented Carolina Tolentino!  Carolina is a professional stylist and has worked with several celebrities (more inside scoop on that later!).  She currently is a stylist on the hit TV shows DALLAS and Revolution.

feb blog1

Naturally, being from Dallas I was especially interested to hear about the styles featured on the hit show on TNT.

B: Who is your favorite character on the show to dress?

C: Josh Henderson’s character is the most fun because I like his style the best!  It’s a challenge to make him look masculine and refined at the same time.  Men are actually harder to style than women.

B: Which female character’s style do you like the best?

C: Jordana Brewster’s character has great style; her wardrobe is stuff I would actually wear.

Jordana Brewster

Jordana Brewster

B: How would you describe her look?

C: Dallas casual, she’s relaxed but always put together with jewelry and accessories.  Dallas women never look undone, and a little effort goes a long way in brightening your attitude!

B: What’s been your best fashion find?

C: I found this amazing Issa dress while vintage shopping.  It was only $5 and in a size that was much bigger than I wear.  I bought it and had it altered to fit me perfectly.  The alterations cost $30, but now I have a designer dress that looks custom made to fit me!

B: How is working on Revolution different than working on the Dallas set?

C: They are polar opposites!!!  When I’m working on revolution I’m putting mud and oil on the actors, ripping their clothes, making fake wounds…on Dallas I’m making everyone look perfectly put together.

B: Of all the celebrities you’ve worked with, who is your favorite?

C: Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) is one of the nicest people I have ever met!  He was so kind to the crewmembers and when he talks to you, he makes you feel like you’re the only person in the room!

Dwayne Johnson makes you feel like number one when talking to him!

Carolina’s Top Tips for Healthy Housewives

– Play up your assets (and never be afraid to WORK IT!)

– Work out your arms (you’ll thank yourself when getting dressed)

– Show off the part of your body you feel most proud of.  If it’s your legs, sport a sparkly mini skirt!  If the arms have it, then go with a one-shoulder style.

– ALWAYS at least wear one piece of jewelry to feel put together

– Jeans are the hardest to buy for EVERYONE, it doesn’t matter how famous or how perfect your figure is.  Carolina recommends buying one high quality pair of jeans vs. several less expensive pairs that don’t fit as nicely.

-Find a tailor who will take the time to work on altering a garment the way you want it.

– Pay attention to cut, once you find a top that’s flattering buy it in 2 more colors!  It will make your life easier and you’ll always feel confident in your default look!

– Cache’ is a great store for women 40+ because their clothes are cut to fit women, not teenagers!  They make their jeans a little higher, lending a flattering “tummy tuck” effect.

– Buy tops that have a longer fit, this will have the visual effect of lengthening and elongating your torso.

– Take care of your hair!!!  She recommends taking Biotin for hair, skin, and nails.

– Always have your nails done…even if it makes you late!!!

– Drink a lot of water

– Pay attention to posture.  Standing up straight really does affect the way others perceive you; and how you look and feel in your clothes.

I hope these tips and tricks were helpful!  We all know that beauty is from the inside out.   It starts with you feeling great and taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually.  Then once you have a healthy canvas, it’s fun to use all kinds of colors!  Always remember to have fun with fashion and never take it too seriously!

Fitness Apparel Shopping Sites to Love!!

Hi Everyone! It’s been a wild week! Working everyday and caring for a sick child is tough but that’s the life of parent and single parent can be even tougher.  I don’t know what I would do without the support of my family, especially my Dad. He helps us so much! I can never thank him enough!

That said my blog this week is extremely short, very late but hopefully somewhat useful!

I want to share a couple of shopping websites for the Fitwear Fashionistas! Two sites that I really like are Carbon 38 which features high fashion fitness apparel and Evolve Fit Wear which has a huge selection of fitness wear and offers free shipping and no tax ever since they are shipped out of Oregon.

You will find something you love on both sites!

l blog 5First understand that anything in this article is by no means a judgment , a mocking of others, or meant to show myself in a “know it all” light.
This is more of a been there – done that…A learned it, lived it kind of thing, an educated awareness and profound aha .
An observation of loved ones and an empathy of the people I coach that want nothing more to finally do everything they want to do .
This year I’ve adopted a saying “getting your mind right will make everything all right. ”
And I do mean everything .

If you are new to this , this first part may not sound like you ( because you are not even equipped with the how-to basics yet) so pay extra attention for the not-so-hidden tips of staying on track.

So check this scenario:
New Year’s Day … The last two weeks you’ve ate and drank all you wanted, because that was the LAST time you would ever taste your beloved favorite foods and cocktails. Ever again. EVER.
Eating that much in a small amount of time is highly NOT recommended for many reasons. Note, however, that you ate 3 times as much as normal because you needed to get it out of your system or out of the house or whatever other excuse you’ve told yourself to feed your indulgence . We will get more into that later .
On with the scenario ….
You are fully equipped this year
You’ve got your goal list , and your healthy food shopping list.
You may even have a whole months meal plan . Yay you !!!
You’ve cleaned out your cupboards , drawers , car and office of any temptation that can send you into the spiraling depths of “diet hell “.
And oh that’s right you have learned your new terminology of “eating healthy” not “dieting” . Awesome (no seriously , awesome 😉 )
You’ve purchased your gym membership, put in the treadmill, or purchased the latest greatest DVD workout system .
Oh and you’ll need an accountability partner . Get on that phone ASAP !
Or heck even an accountability group . Because this year you are doing this thing!!
Maybe if you’re able you have invested in a coach or personal trainer .. Perfect

So goal list , healthy food , workout plan , accountability partner .
Check, check, and check !!
And an attitude to rock the house. Oh hell yeah!
Day 1…day 5…day 7…
You have not cheated once , even though Judy from the office brought the yummy holiday cookie remnants.
You notice a lighter feeling in your belly a pep in your step and hey maybe even a couple pounds lost .
You are actually going to do this this year and it takes 21 days to build a habit so you are well on your way .
Day 8 ..Monday morning
“Ahh another grueling work week start . I just need some more sleep…” *Alarm clock snooze* “I’ll get my workout in after work .”
Evening comes. You’re tired. No gym today but DEFINITELY tomorrow. .
“Which is not so bad because my book said 80% if my healthy success is in the kitchen . No problem , I got this .”
Friday night .. Facebook notice. ., office party , Bfs birthday bash, or “well it’s the weekend.”
“OMG ! I forgot about that , how can I be social and not eat drink or indulge , how can I not go ? What will people think!?”
Saturday night comes. You are going to a party. Maybe your still equipped , and coach says “Eat your selected food before you go ” or “bring it with you ” .
Ok, great .

—-The Party—-
Friend number 1 : Can I get you a drink. ?

You : Nope I’m good (phew dodged that bullet )

Friend 2 : Ok so you are NOT drinking because of some new silly life style change? Yeah ok you’ll last. ( Maybe saying the second part under their breath as they walk away)

Friend 3 :Here I bought you a drink . Yeah, I know you are trying “really hard” this year , but one won’t hurt .
You: Yeah one won’t hurt . I can even probably do 2 and be fine .
(Back on the horse tomorrow . No problem for me)

3 drinks in , the table food of fried yummies calls your name . Every couple mins in fact .
I’ll just indulge, just this time . Sunday morning hangover and gut wrenched . No gym today !! Start again on Monday. Cuz well that’s when the starting over has to happen . Right ?

Your next week is full of ups and downs. You’ve gained back the few pounds you’ve lost . And your motivation is down. “Oh hell what’s the sense it never works .. Nothing I ever do and I’ve tried everything . I’ll try again next New Years. Bring on the pizza and beer !”
Scenario over. Alright so here’s what your missing .
Did you remember to tell your brain !???

It sounds crazy because we automatically think that because we have stated a goal , resolution or whatever that our brains must automatically fall in line .

Right ?

Wrong .

Our Brains actually automate to whats easiest , whats comfortable , what is already routine .

The Brain needs to be not only well informed of your new intentions, but “conditioned ” in your new lifestyle thinking.

IF , that is, you really want to be successful.

Especially in a result of life long change and stick-to-itveness.

l blog 4

This must be decided , first and foremost .

Referring to the reasons WHY you started will always bring you back to something stronger than “I just want to lose weight”.

Do you want to feel amazing ? Alive ? Energetic ? Do you want to be around longer for your spouse, kids or grandkids ? Do you want to feel better to do your job ? Do you want to feel sexy in your little black dress or favorite lingerie ? Maybe you want the ex and his new found gf to take notice ? (Hey no judgment here, I’m a big fan of whatever it takes to get the job done ) .

That is why it’s YOUR “why” and no one else’s. It’s whatever appeals to you .

Just make sure it is strong enough to beat your snooze button or beloved chocolate cake.

Stop thinking of terms of “sacrifice ” . The minute our bodies think of what we are “giving up ” is the minute the sense of defeat has started to set in.

Giving up your favorite foods, your extra sleep, your tv time or time out with friends. Your body will think of all this as pain and kick it to the curb ASAP .

(If you want to know more about the pain/ pleasure concept in regards to your goals, please refer to Awaken the giant by Tony Robbins)

Instead of convincing yourself that you are suffering, think of all the new things you will explore and experience . The new found energy , confidence, and overall feeling of health you will be getting . Eventually your food preferences will change and you will look forward to exercise . True story !!

And remember “not now ” does not mean “not ever ” . finding your food balance and treat/cheat time comes with the territory. 80/20 rule , “eat to live not live to eat ” and all that .

l blog 2

Progress not perfection has kept me going more times than I can count.(this coming from a serial perfectionist )

Many people will purchase a workout program or a nutrition plan and not keep going because it is seemingly too hard .

I still am not great at push ups, stink at running and it took me at least a year to understand the complete choreography to a Turbofire round.

What’s important is that I go farther , add on more or keep trying .

If you need, take small steps in reference to your eating as well .

Eliminate soda and increase your water intake.

Decrease processed foods and intro more whole foods . Eat at your favorite takeout once a month instead of once a week.

Cutting everything out all at once can send you right into sacrifice mode. Just be mindful to an increase of positive changes .

l blog 1

We all have the same 24 hours . We all have challenges within those hours .

For every excuse there is a valid response as to why your excuse is invalid .

Remember that default response of your brain ?

Your excuse will just feed its need to do what is easiest , sometimes the only answer is to push yourself .

Your body and your brain will thank you later .

Turnin your health and fitness into a priority . You will make time instead of look to find time .

Say ” I must ” instead of ” I should”

Thank you for reading my blog!

What’s in your Water?

If you’ve been following me on social media, you probably see some glamorous stuff (I’m a corporate spokesperson),  some sweaty stuff, (I’m a runner, fitness trainer, and sweater), some health and wellness stuff (I’m passionate about holistically caring for one’s health), and then you see some tubs of murky water and funny bio-electricity tools (I’m a certified LectroChi practitioner). One word to describe my life lately is: versatile! My husband and I joke that we are living the “not-normal” life, and my career has definitely followed along that journey. Despite the variety of my roles, and my activities, there’s one constant: WATER!

Image If I was ever on one of those reality TV shows and asked what one item would describe me, without using any words, I would show a good ol’ water bottle (BPA-free.) Water is a life source, meaning, we can’t live long without it. If we go dehydrated too long, our quality of life suffers—and if we keep letting ourselves get to a dehydrated state, overtime, our health suffers.

I’ve recently become aware that not all water is created equal. Check out: Ouch! I didn’t realize how acidic our water can get. After being introduced to several different brands of alkaline water, I researched the benefits of a higher pH water and reasons to alkaline your body ASAP! To take it a step further, and to fill my own bottles while I am not traveling and at home, there’s alkaline water filters like Kangen. My friend, Misty introduced me to Kangen water filters and how it can change the way you hydrate, beautify, and even clean your house! All with water! I’ve always known water is important–I just didn’t know how powerful it is!

How acidic are you?

Sure, drinking the right water is a great first step; however, with an increasingly toxic environment, poor food options, and higher stress levels, we need to detox at the cellular level, hence my recommendation for ionic foot spa sessions and laser treatments. If you’re interested in learning more about Kangen water, contact:  Misty Scarbrough, Authorized Product Specialist Enagic USA Inc. at Toll Free 877-734-3858. Or message me and I’ll get you connected.

Water can benefit your stress levels in many ways you may not know. Starting your day off with warm lemon water engages your metabolism and works as a light liver detox. Over time, this practice can lead to clearer skin, less digestive issues, and of course, detoxification. Soaking in an Epsom Salts bath soothes my mind as much as my muscles these days.  I  make my own mix of coconut oil, essential oils and Epsom Salts to add to the jet tub and soak my daily worries away. Ahhhh…

It’s been an interesting week of client sessions, and I can tell there’s some sickness going around town. When someone says, “Ew, that’s gross,” I love reminding them how they are cleaner and beautiful on the inside. Soaking in ionized water with a good book is easily a favorite holistic health remedy of mine. Let’s find a practitioner near you ASAP!

Water can be magical for your body and your overall health, so drink up, soak, steam, sweat, and repeat!  –Lacey Pruett

Friends don’t let friends wear white socks!

Friends don’t let friends wear white socks is one of my mottos! If you are a white sock wearer, don’t worry, I still think you are AMAZING…this is just my personal opinion, not fact, so don’t stress. So, let me give you my low down on socks…my favorite kinds and when to wear them.

1. NO SHOW SOCKS–these are my absolute favorite. You have to get a good kind though, otherwise they can slip off your heel, which in turn will rub your shoe. I don’t like for my socks to show AT ALL so for me these are a perfect fit. Both NIKE and Reebok have a good line of these. They remind me of those nylons you find at shoe stores to try shoes on with, but of course, they are a sock.

2. Knee high socks–these are my second go to, obviously only when I wear shorts, and, when I am feeling like an extra bad A#$. They key to a good knee high sock is color and pattern. Something fun that really accentuates your mood. I always said fun socks made me train harder. I often find Target has a good selection of knee high socks with crazy patterns for under $5.

3. Leg warmers–no its not flashdance days, but yes they are trendy and cute right now! Put them over your leggings or wear them with shorts, but wearing leg warmers always makes me feel slightly sassy..perfect for days involving dance!

Listen, I am all for you wearing whatever it takes to get you MOVING…and so if that means high white crew socks, that is okay with me. But just wanted you to know a few of my favorites! Image

Refresh Your Winter Skin

During the winter, our skin puts up with A LOT! From the freezing air outside, to the toasty but skin-parching heat inside, winter means that my skin is usually dehydrated and oft-ignored until it completely rebels. Some of its favorite ways to get my attention: 1) my fingertips split in agony at every opportunity, 2) my legs itch so badly I think I’m molting into a second skin, 3) my face flakes in random places (the middle of my cheeks and in my eyebrows—gross!), and 4) most distressingly, my scalp gets so itchy and flaky that I take to apologizing to my hair stylist before I even creep into her chair.

When dry, winter skin flares up, don’t despair! Fight back with super-easy beauty potions you can make right in your kitchen! Don’t get me wrong—I love a good retail beauty product just as much as the next girl. But when the basics of bliss are already tucked away in your pantry, you’d be crazy not to give them a try. Here are a few DIY recipes to repair your “lizard” skin and leave your skin radiant, soft, and bright—just in time for spring!

For a Radiant Face

pumpkin honey

Pumpkin, Milk, and Honey Facial Mask

  • 3 tsp. canned organic pumpkin
  • ½ tsp. honey
  • ½ tsp. milk

Mix the ingredients together thoroughly, and brush onto freshly cleansed skin. Let dry 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water to reveal soft, glowing skin.

(Recipe created by Jessica Kernochan, founder of LaLicious; from

For a Beautiful Body

oats milk soak

Oatmeal, Milk, and Honey Bath Soak

  • ½  c. uncooked oatmeal
  • ½ c. honey
  • 2 c. whole milk or raw milk, or ½ c. whole-milk powder
  • ¼ c. Epsom salts

If you have a muslin bag, place all ingredients in the bag and place under the running water. Then you can use the bag as a washcloth to massage the skin. Relax and enjoy!

If you don’t have a muslin bag (like most people), then use a coffee filter to wrap the oatmeal in. Secure with a string or rubber band. Pour the honey and milk powder (and Epsom salts) directly into the bath water and stir until dissolved.

Note: Use whole milk, raw milk, or whole-milk powder instead of nonfat milk powder. You need all the fat you can get—it will leave your skin soft and hydrated.

honey scrub

This aromatic gourmet blend of rosemary, peppermint and honey will leave your skin and your senses invigorated and oh so soft!

1. Using a spoon, stir together salt or sugar with oil in a Mason jar or glass container.

2. Mix in the honey and stir sugar and or salt together until desired consistency.

3. Drop in essential oils, stir until thoroughly mixed.

For Kissable Lips

Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

  • 1 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 2 tsp. brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp. oil from coconut oil jar

  1. Combine coconut oil and honey in a small bowl, and blend them together until they form a thick, clump-free paste.
  2. Fold the brown sugar into the coconut oil/honey paste. Make sure that all the brown sugar is coated and mixed in.
  3. Add the liquid oil from the jar of coconut oil to the mixture. This will smooth out the scrub and give your lips extra moisture. If your coconut oil is oil-free in the jar, just get a little bit out and gently warm until it melts into a liquid.
  4. Transfer the scrub into a small jar or container with a lid. Before using the scrub, you may need to set it out on the counter (at room temp) to soften. When ready, apply a small amount in circles over your lips for a minute or two. Then rinse with a warm washcloth. Kissable lips!!

An Eggscellent Start to Valentine’s Day!

ImageDoes your heart want to gift breakfast in bed, but your culinary skills are dreaming don’t bother? I’m still fine-tuning my skills in the kitchen, so instead, I’m going to leave it to the experts. In honor of Valentine’s Week, I want to share a favorite date spot for my husband and I. We both have “not-normal” work schedules, so sometimes our date night is actually a leisurely, peaceful brunch. Our location of choice? The Egg & I!

He and I have differing stages of a clean diet. He enjoys heartier fare and not as many peppers, onions, and spices, and I say keep it clean with just an egg white, no cheese, and bring on the peppers and spices (and salsa!) We both love our coffee, but I’ll have the flavored selection with only some cream, please! He’ll keep his medium roast with cream and one Splenda (I’m working on it, ya’ll…)

Where we come together… Strawberry jam! For our “dessert,” we’ll have our bread selection—both English muffins. He’ll have butter and jam, and I’ll just have the jam.

Sure, we’ll switch things up every so often, but this is our usual fare, although there are many more options. If you’re feeling adventurous but don’t want to break the waistband elastic, check out the helpful, user-friendly nutritional tool at:  Health coach tip: Only eat the Arizona Turkey Sandwich for post-marathon fueling.

Here’s the Vera Cruz Chicken & Avocado Omelette. This is my selection if I’m flying my freak flag one morning. 🙂
