Do you have Healthy Humidity in your Home?

Hey everyone Sandy here, your Healthy Housewive’s home and garden girl! I hope you are all  staying warm and cozy during this winter. I’m not a big fan of  cold weather, but one thing that I do enjoy in my home during  the winter  is  having a fire in the fireplace. It helps keeps us warm and snuggly, although heating indoor air  whether it’s with the fireplace or your regular heater reduces the  humidity levels in your house. Winter, in general, brings very dry air inside our homes. The colder the climate is, the drier the air.

The first is our health. Breathing dry air will cause irritation to the mucous membranes in mouth, throat and nasal passages. This can  lead to an increase in colds and other respiratory infections.This is exactly why I’m writing my blog about this week. I came down with a horrible sinus infection out of no where! The main  issue  is plain dehydration. humidification, dehydration is something that you can avoid by drinking a lot of water. However, that’s internal. Often times, if your humidification levels are low, you are going to have dry skin. We all  are familiar with how dry and itchy skin get during the winter season.  Other symptoms could include joint pain,  dry throat, sore dry eyes, and even difficulty concentrating. In general, if your humidity levels are too low, you may experience constant discomfort. When we have humidity in the air, we all feel more comfortable overall.

Low moisture levels in your home during the winter can also take a toll on other things in your home. Wood furniture and floors can dry out and even develop cracks due to very dry air. Protecting the wood with furniture oils and wax helps, but adding humidity to the air is a more complete solution.Plants in your home will dry out quickly too, this makes them more susceptible to disease and things such as spider mites, so watering  more frequently and misting them will help out.

Adding humidity to our homes benefits the whole household, How do you do this? One way is with a home humidifier! Using a humidifier frequently can help you eliminate a lot of these pesky issues and may save you some doctor visits. Humidity in your home should be kept around 40%. If your home is too humid you will notice moisture on the windows, meaning the humidity needs to be turned down. Too much humidity can cause a problem too, like mold, so like I always say a happy medium is best. 🙂 Here are a few of the benefits of having a home humidifier.
