MEMORIES AND MY BUCKET LIST!

Do you remember when we were young and and had no responsibilites? We could dream and play. Our only responsiblity was school and household chores. (And we thought that was hard! LOL) Then life starts to get busier the older we get. Next thing you know we are working, getting married, having kids or pets, and then our plate becomes extremely full. We get in the daily grind of busy lives that we sometimes forget to stop and smell the roses. Life happens.

It wasn’t till I hit my 30’s that life began to make sense and I started enjoying my daily life. Instead of taking things for granted, I started to become grateful. I started to become alive to everyone and everything around me. My attitude towards life changed for the best. When I reflect back, I owe a lot of my positive attitude towards fitness. I always tell people fitness saved my life in every aspect of my life. I learned to workout and eat the right foods which made me feel good then my physique started to look fit which gave me confidence. This motivated me to keep going. I loved how I look and felt about myself. But, it wasn’t till I was a fitness competitor, that I really learned to push myself. It took disipline to do the rigorious workouts, eat the right foods for months, and meeting the deadline to go on stage to showcase my hardwork. Competing has been one of the hardest and most rewarding accomplishments I have ever done in life. I proved to myself that I could do anything I wanted to do in life if I put my mind to it. I have to say that fitness helped me accomplish so many great goals in life. I also got to do things in life that I never thought I would get to do in a million years.

I recently had a grateful moment of self reflecting as I was spring cleaning and organizing my office that brought a smile to my face. I noticed that I had been on 20 fitness/bodybuilding covers and over 100 layouts/ads. I looked at some of hard earned trophies I won that blew my mind. I just thought wow, I can’t believe all of this! Fitness started this, the people at Gaspari Nutrition helped me along this journey, and here I am still going.

But before all of this, I set a list of goals or a bucket list in life that I would love to happen to me. Did I really think this all was going to happen? I guess I wasn’t sure, but I think when I believed in me, it happened. Back in the day, my goal list said: I wanted to win the 2007 Ms. Bikini Universe, be on a cover of a magazine, travel to exotic locations, drive a convertible 650 i (my dream car at the time, now I am on my second one!), own my own business, and a few other things. I will be damned if I completed all of these things on my list plus some! I thought if I could do all of this, what else can I achieve in life? So every few years, I add more things to the bucket list. I want to live a full life and enjoy every minute of it.

Other things I set my mind to do and accomplished or just happened: Do a workout video, become a health/fitness writer, do a reality show, zip lined, dog sledded, snow mobiled, skiied in Telluride (it was -5 degrees when I went!), went to England, went to Australia, went to Maui, did yoga on the beach, started taking acting classes, hosting classes, speak in front of hundreds of people, and enjoy life

I wanted to share my new bucket list in life. It has a little bit of everything from personal to travel to conquering fears. 1. Drink wine and chill in Tuscany, Italy. 2. Drink an expresso and have croissant at a cafe in France. 3. Party with friends in Ibiza, Spain dancing to David Guetta spin. 4. Go to Santorini, Greece. 5. Write a book 6. Become a host for a tv show 7. Be the first fitness model on Dancing with the Stars (they have never had a fitness personality on that show) 8. Be on Amazing Race (I have tried out 3 times already) 9. Always be kind to people and be grateful where I am in life 10. Surround myself with people who love me 11. Help people 12. Always stay grounded 13. Live a long healthy and happy life 14. Help spread to the world to be more eco-friendly

Those are just some of my dreams that I hope come true. I will keep dreaming and working hard to make the most out of life and enjoy it with the people who love me. I hope you guys reach your dreams. Beause you never know the power of you…

I <3 Strawberries

Hey everyone, it’s Shanon G. I wanted to share with you 10 things you probably didn’t know about strawberries-my favorite fruit

1. The first garden strawberry was grown in France during the late 18th century. Prior to this wild strawberries and cultivated selections from wild strawberry species were the common source for the fruit.

2.Strawberries are low in calories (32 kcal/100g) and fats but rich source of many health promoting phyto-nutrients, minerals and vitamins that are essential for optimum health.

3.Strawberries have very high amounts of phenolic flavonoid phyto-chemicals calledanthocyanins and ellagic acid. Basically this means that eating strawberries may have potential health benefits against cancer, aging, inflammation and neurological diseases.

4. Strawberries (and other berries)  are an excellent source of vitamin C-about 98% of recommended daily allowance, which is also a powerful natural antioxidant. Consumption of fruits rich in vitamin C helps your body develop resistance against infectious agents, counter inflammation, and scavenge harmful free radicals.

5.Strawberries are rich in the B-complex group of vitamins. They contain very good amounts of vitamin B-6, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid and folic acid. These vitamins are acting as co-factors help body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

6. Strawberries contain vitamin A, vitamin E and many health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic antioxidants such as lutein, zeaxanthin, beta carotene in small amounts. These compounds help act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging and various disease process.

7. They contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, and iron. Potassium in an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. Copper is required in the production of red blood cells. Iron is required for red blood cell formation.

8. They give you whiter teeth. Ever heard of strawberries and baking soda as teeth cleaner? Try it. Put 1 large strawberry in a blender together with ½ teaspoon of baking soda and blend well. You can also mash the strawberry using a fork and mix the baking soda in. Use it like toothpaste and spread it on to your teeth gently. Leave it for 3-6 minutes and cleanse your teeth with water afterwards. Just make sure you brush your teeth with your preferred commercial toothpaste after so there won’t be strawberry stain or taste left.

9. Strawberries also prevent constipation and even colon cancer because they wash away harmful toxins in our intestines.

10.  Strawberries also keep our eyes bright. Studies on eyesight reveals that eating at least 5 strawberries a day could keep your vision clear.

COOL TOOL

I found this cool new makeup tool to add to my collection! My makeup bag is the worst! About once a week I take everything out and wipe it down. There’s nothing worse than putting clean makeup brushes back in a nasty dirty carrying case.

So at least one of my problems is solved. I found the coolest pencil sharpener. The blades are treated with anitbacterial solution that sanitizes pencils with every twist. Its good for two years and fits standard and jumbo liners and can create sharp or round points. At only $12 its worth adding to your morning makeup routine.
